Women took on jobs that had previously been done mainly or entirely by men - they worked in heavy industry, in farming and forestry, on the railways and the buses, as taxi drivers, lorry drivers etc. They joined the newly formed women's police force, and the women's army, navy, and air force. And many women of course worked in munitions. They worked in banks. A favourable impression was created of women's competence in taking on these roles.
More women took on jobs than staying home was because of the war there was alot more jobs opening up to the society. |
